Ashton Consulting knocks on Wood...

Chris Wood, the amateur sensation of last year’s Open Championship at Royal Birkdale, has been given a huge boost as he makes the transition into the professional ranks.

Ashton Consulting, a Bristol-based, privately-owned IT recruitment business, is to sponsor one of golf’s potential superstars for the next 2 years. “I’m very grateful to Ashton Consulting for putting their faith in me particularly in these worldwide, tough financial times,” said Wood, currently on his debut season on the European Tour after graduating with honours at last year’s Qualifying School. “I’m extremely proud to be associated with a company at the centre of an area that has been so important to my upbringing and development as a golfer,” added Wood. “I will be doing everything I can to repay their faith in me”.

Ashton Consulting director Owen O’Neill paid tribute to the 21 year-old and looked forward to a long and successful partnership.   “I became aware of Chris through my association with Long Ashton Golf Club and as he is a local sportsman, we felt that associating our brand with Chris would be beneficial to both parties,” he said.

“We have previously been involved in sponsoring Motor Racing and football events, but golf is something that we have been looking at for some time,” added O’Neill.   “Chris presents a great opportunity for us to associate ourselves with the sport while promoting a local sportsman”.
